Fishing is a popular pastime on many US beaches. What is a type of saltwater fish commonly caught from piers or by wading (flounder, redfish, etc.)?

On the Atlantic side of Florida, Tarpon, Permit and Snook are popular

Northern California and farther up to Alaska: Ling Cod, Halibut

In the Gulf of Mexico, wading out for Flounder gigging is common. Fishing from the beach or piers is good for Pompano, Red and Black Drum,Speckled Trout, Sheepshead and sometimes Snapper. There are many other fish caught, but they generally aren’t targeted species.

For those who were actually old enough to have experienced the 1970s and not for those who were born in the 70s. What were the pros and cons of that era?

Further up the Atlantic coast, Tilefish, Stripers, Makerel, Skate and Whiting.

Bear in mind, there are many other pelagic species that require a boat. This list is by no means complete. I’m sure others can add to it.

On the Pacific: Southern California:White Sea Bass, bass of many varieties, Sheepshead, Yellowtail, Sculpin, Barracuda and Halibut
